Week of November 3-70

I can’t believe it is already November! It feels like just yesterday we were all just getting to know one another. This week we finished up Lesson 9 in reading. Yesterday, we began Lesson 10. Lesson 10 is the last lesson in Theme 2 of our Story Town book. This means our current story is Reader’s Theater. It is also the lesson in the theme that reviews everything learned in previous lessons. So, the skills we are reviewing are making predicitions and plot. These are called focus skills in the text book. Asking your child what the focus skill is for the current lesson is a good way of finding out how well they are paying attention and how well they are doing with comprehension. Comprehension is extremly important in order for a child to become a successful reader. It is taught and practiced through the focus skill and focus strategy that goes along with each lesson.

AR
I have had a lot of questions concerning AR. Yes we are doing AR, it has just taken a little longer than planned to get up and running. Please keep in mind AR is not going to be as much of a priority as it has been in the past. This is due to the new schedule that does not allow for AR time during the school day. Students will have chances to read and take quizzes, but there is no longer a set period of time for them to read.

Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend! GO EAGLES!!!

Homework1

To really stress the importance of personally responsibility, I will not be posting homework on my blog. Students are asked to write down the homework for each night in their agenda. The homework packets also have the suggested day that each page should be completed. If a child forgets his or her packet or agenda one night, then the natural consequence would be having to make up the missed assignment the following night. However, in the future, I will post information about take-home projects. Thanks!

Friendly Classroom reminders :)6

Here are just a few tips for our students to stay as focused as possible during the school day:

1. We have lunch at 12:15. Please make sure your child eats a good breakfast, or remembers to go to breakfast when he or she arrives at school. For many students it may be almost 5 or 6 hours before they eat again.

2. Many of my new students our having a hard time getting used to being in school all day once again. I have a lot of heavy eyes in the afternoon, and even some are falling asleep! Please make sure he or she is getting enough sleep, even if that means going to bed ealier than normal, until their body is used to the new schedule.

3. We are very lucky to have AC at our school. However, sometimes is can get a little too chilly in our room. Please make sure your son or daughter keeps a sweater or hoodie in their locker at all times in case they get cold.
