Week of November 3-70
I can’t believe it is already November! It feels like just yesterday we were all just getting to know one another. This week we finished up Lesson 9 in reading. Yesterday, we began Lesson 10. Lesson 10 is the last lesson in Theme 2 of our Story Town book. This means our current story is Reader’s Theater. It is also the lesson in the theme that reviews everything learned in previous lessons. So, the skills we are reviewing are making predicitions and plot. These are called focus skills in the text book. Asking your child what the focus skill is for the current lesson is a good way of finding out how well they are paying attention and how well they are doing with comprehension. Comprehension is extremly important in order for a child to become a successful reader. It is taught and practiced through the focus skill and focus strategy that goes along with each lesson.
AR
I have had a lot of questions concerning AR. Yes we are doing AR, it has just taken a little longer than planned to get up and running. Please keep in mind AR is not going to be as much of a priority as it has been in the past. This is due to the new schedule that does not allow for AR time during the school day. Students will have chances to read and take quizzes, but there is no longer a set period of time for them to read.
Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend! GO EAGLES!!!
